Lights, Camera, Garden! A magical venue for open air movie screenings.

Upon arrival, it was evident that our clients required additional space beyond the constraints of their cramped backyard. The challenge lay in altering the terrain and seamlessly merging various areas to create a unified yet diverse yard. Our objective was to fulfill their wishlist, which included a firepit, an expanded terrace, a dining area, and an outdoor movie viewing experience. By manipulating the landscape, we transformed the limited space into a multi-zone oasis. The end result is a harmonious blend of distinct spaces that collectively form a spacious and inviting backyard retreat.

This was the perfect spot for an oversized firepit, but first we had to save and move the tree!

A key objective was to improve the access from the deck to the terrace without requiring a lengthy detour around the house. Architect Bruce Miller skillfully designed a set of stairs to seamlessly connect the two spaces. The custom stairs provided a practical solution while adding an element of architectural beauty to the overall design.

Thanks to Francis Andrande and his team of masons, the terrace underwent a significant expansion by excavating underneath the deck and extending the bluestone surface all the way to the fence. A captivating long sitting wall gracefully meanders around a vibrant cutting garden, adding both functionality and visual interest. It seamlessly connects to enclose the inviting firepit area, creating a cozy gathering spot. Interior designer Ken Dietz from Dietz and Associates (http://www.dietzandassociates.com) skillfully styled the couches, chairs, and dining area, crafting a serene atmosphere that effortlessly transitions from relaxation to spirited ping pong games.

Talented carpenter Mike Souza and his team played a crucial role in elevating the outdoor space. They skillfully installed a waterproof wood ceiling, allowing the clients to enjoy the area even on rainy days. This addition not only provided protection from the elements but also added a touch of warmth and natural beauty to the space. A convenient pull-down projection screen was incorporated, creating the perfect setup for memorable movie nights in the garden. This thoughtful integration of technology and craftsmanship further enhanced the versatility and entertainment value of the outdoor area.

The long side yard received a significant transformation to enhance its aesthetic appeal and privacy. The implementation included the enlargement of plant beds and the strategic addition of Ginko trees, effectively creating a separation from the neighbor's driveway.

There is something to enjoy in every nook-even under the stairs!

We installed oversized stepping stones that lead up to the new driveway. Solomon seal and shade plantings spill over the path.

An idea from grandma sparked a remarkable transformation. The driveway was shortened to make room for side-by-side spaces, allowing for more functional and versatile outdoor areas. A stunning paver from Unilock was installed, adding a touch of elegance and visual appeal to the landscape. To address water issues that had been damaging the backyard, a large drain and drywell system were incorporated, effectively managing water flow. Additionally, the lot line was beautifully marked with Allium, catmint, and Arborvitae, enhancing the aesthetics and creating a sense of boundary and privacy. .

A sweet shade garden sits next to the front door filled with foam flower, astilbe and more. Container plants on the deck complete the scene.
